About the role

The primary focus of the Kinship Care Case Contracted Case Manager is the effective case management for children and young people aged 0-18 years in Statutory Kinship Care Placements, providing ongoing support to children and young people and their carers with their day-to-day challenges, improve outcomes and to make a difference to the lives of children and young people we work with.

Additionally, as a Kinship Case Manager within VACCA you will need to identify the training and support needs of Kinship Carers, particularly non-Indigenous carers in terms of their cultural competence and ensuring the children/young people maintain connections to their Community and Country.

Your case management will include home visits, undertaking carer assessments, risk assessments, report writing and the provision of support to children/young people, their carers, and families.

About You

  • Commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
  • Understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and the ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal children and their families.
  • An ability to work effectively as part of a team, with the ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Well-developed written and computer skills with the ability to prepare reports (including court reports), maintain client records to a high standard, develop, implement, and review plans for children and young people and complete assessments including assessments of risk.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Child, Youth and Families Act 2005, including knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and practice requirements relating to Aboriginal children, families, and communities.
  • Understanding of child development, attachment and trauma and the ability to use this knowledge to guide practice with Aboriginal children, families, and carers.
  • An ability and/or willingness to undertake complex casework with families and children who have experienced trauma, and may present with challenging behaviours, including using culturally safe therapeutic approaches to heal and build resilience.
  • An ability to advocate on behalf of Aboriginal children and families.
  • Requirements: Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence.
