About the role
The Better Futures Worker – Housing First will act as the key worker for the young person, being the main contact for the entire period of leaving care support, taking on case management support when the young person leaves care. The role will include a strong focus on achieving outcomes for the young person in housing, culture, employment, education, health & wellbeing.
The Key Worker will support with implementation of the Housing First initiative, supporting young people to increase their independent living capacity whilst in their Housing first accommodation, building rapport and completing outreach tasks with young people such as attending appointments and filling out paperwork.
About You
- Commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated experience in the Out of Home Care and/or Housing sectors.
- An ability to work in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner with the Aboriginal community.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Youth Housing sector in the Western regions and options that are currently available, including crisis accommodation, short- and medium-term housing options, public housing and the private rental market.
- Demonstrated ability to provide support to community members who have complex needs and behaviours.
- A proven ability to negotiate and advocate on behalf of the Aboriginal community.
- An ability to undertake case management tasks, such as assessments, referrals, case planning and exit planning.
- An ability to work effectively with Aboriginal organisations, Government departments and community service organisations
- Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
