About the role
This role supports Aboriginal women, children, young people and families on their healing journey through culturally safe, trauma-informed therapeutic support. By strengthening connections to culture, identity, family and community, the Family Violence Therapeutic Counsellor helps create pathways to safety, wellbeing and recovery, while working alongside Elders, community and partner services to deliver meaningful and culturally responsive support.
About You
You are a compassionate and culturally aware practitioner who is committed to supporting Aboriginal women, children and young people impacted by family violence. You build strong, respectful relationships and engage clients in a flexible, trauma-informed way that promotes safety, healing and wellbeing. Comfortable working across community settings, you provide advocacy, referrals and practical support while maintaining strong partnerships with Elders, community members and service providers. You are highly organised, reflective in your practice and committed to delivering culturally safe, high-quality support that makes a meaningful difference in people's lives.
- Desirable:
- A tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, family therapy or related discipline along with demonstrated experience
- Knowledge of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 and the MARAM framework
- Multi Agency Risk Assessment Management
Knowledge of the CSnet data reporting system - Understanding of trauma-informed practice, narrative therapy and other therapeutic modalities (e.g., strength-based, socio-cultural, structural, or systematic approaches) for examining client’s daily interactions with stressful situations or family patterns in family violence.
- Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
