About the role

The Better Futures Intake Worker & Community Connector will work with young people between the ages of 15– 21 and are/were living in Out of Home Care.

As a Community Connector/Intake Worker, you will provide support to the Better Futures team by providing intake and assessment functions to incoming referrals and provide support to young people on Active Hold by identifying pathways, resources and relationships within the community that can support them.

The Community Connector/Intake worker will support the Better Futures team as a secondary consult.

About You

  • Commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose 
  • Qualification in Community Services and/or Youth Work, or willingness to obtain
  • Demonstrated experience in working and engaging with Aboriginal families and children. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues surrounding youth, homelessness, adolescent out-of-home care, the Child Protection and Youth Justice systems and available resources and services in the Gippsland region.
  • Ability to engage young people in out-of-home care including Residential Care, Kinship Care and Home-Based Care.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate in a professional manner, negotiate and solve problems effectively.
  • Experience in facilitating and leading group work with young people.
  • Understanding and work in child safe practices and risk management strategies.
  • Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
