Make a real difference in a young person’s life – while living rent-free.
VACCA (Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency) is looking for a caring, stable, and community-minded adult to become a Lead Tenant, providing a young Aboriginal person in out-of-home care with a safe home, positive role modelling, and support as they build independence.
What is a Lead Tenant?
The Lead Tenant’s role is to live at the selected property and the young person/s and establish positive and meaningful relationships. Lead Tenants are required to act as positive role models and to provide informal support within the household. The role also includes assisting the young person in the house to develop independent living skills, which will support them, to transition to independent living.
What’s involved:

Living in shared accommodation provided by VACCA (rent-free)

Being a consistent, reliable presence in the home

Supporting the young person with everyday routines — cooking, budgeting,

organisation, and general life skills

Building a respectful, culturally safe relationship

Liaising with VACCA support workers as needed
What we’re looking for
-
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity (this is an identified position)

A mature, patient, and culturally grounded individual

Willingness to undergo a Working with Children Check, police check and WCES Check
-
First Aid and CPR
-
Comfortable living semi-independently alongside a young person
-
Prior experience with young people, mentoring, or community work is a plus but not essential
