The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of its kind in Australia. About the role

The VACCA Kinship Finding program is a culturally safe state-wide program that accepts referrals from DFFH and Section 18 programs to assist in family finding, to identify known kinship networks and to research family trees for the purpose of connecting children to kin, country and culture.

The Kinship Finding program is the first family finding program in Victoria for Aboriginal children and young people aged 0-18 years who are subject to child protection involvement and who are either in out-of-home care or at risk of entering out-of-home care.

The Kinship Finding Team Leader will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, and support to Kinship Finding staff, as well as finding family for potential placements, researching, and building families trees to help strengthen connections for Aboriginal children and young people in out-of-home care.

About You

  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’s vision and purpose.
  • Advanced awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, culturally appropriate and respectful way with a range of stakeholders including staff, Government and agency partners and clients.
  • High level organisational skills including time management and the ability to work as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to challenges or changes that can occur during family finding or research
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and documents.
  • High-level computer skills, including demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Capacity to work independently and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to undertake other duties as required.
  • Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
