About the role

The BUABAH practitioner roles report to a Family Services Team Leader and are supported by a range of enabling supports including VACCA’s suite of specialist practice leads.

The role will work closely with the family, linking them with maternity and birth supports, key partners and stakeholders to provide a wraparound response to address the identified needs of the families. BUABAH practitioners will empower families to share their story their way, through the implementation of culturally appropriate and trauma informed engagement, information gathering, planning processes and ensure the active involvement of families in decision making, promoting self-determination. 

About You

  • Commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree qualification in Community Services, Social Work and/or substantial experience in these fields. 
  •  A well-developed understanding of the impact of colonisation, intergenerational trauma and other issues that impact on Aboriginal families, children, and young people, particularly those who are involved with Child Protection. 
  • Ability to apply evidence informed practice approaches including Cultural and Common Elements framework. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills including the ability to work independently and within a small team and maintain up to date case notes. 
  • In-depth understanding of pregnancy, birth and infancy and an ability to support families through these stages. 
  • Strong ability to develop trusting relationships with families, to set goals and work towards achieving them. 
  • Proven experience in working collaboratively with other organisations in partnership to achieve mutually agreed client/community outcomes. 
  • Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
