About the role

The Youth and Family Support Worker for Gamadji Balit Residential Services will engage with the children, young people and their families to develop culturally safe, healthy and collaborative relationships and to assist each child to deal with their trauma-based responses to life in a way that promotes healing, emotional growth and development of positive attitudes and life skills.

About You

  • Good understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, with a strong commitment to learning and awareness of issues affecting Aboriginal communities.
  • Ability to work well with professionals, stakeholders, and community members, following Gamadji Balit principles like cultural identity, family participation, connection to country, respect, and shared responsibility.
  • Proven ability to support the emotional, physical, psychological, and cultural development of Aboriginal children, including managing complex needs and responding to trauma-related behaviors.
  • Strong skills in building and maintaining relationships with young people and families, handling conflicts diplomatically, giving respectful feedback, and creating trust and partnerships.
  • Good teamwork skills with a focus on problem-solving, strength-based approaches, collaboration, and goal achievement.
  • Experience in Case Management, especially with young people in Out of Home Care.
  • Understanding of Residential Care Performance Audits or similar quality reviews.
  • Familiarity with Client Relationship Information System (CRIS) or openness to learning it, and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • A relevant Diploma in Community Services (Mandatory)
  • Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain), First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
