About the role

The role of the Case Support worker is to work cooperatively with Case Managers and under the direction of the Team Leader, to undertake a variety of case work and administration tasks, such as assisting with referrals, making phone calls, researching supports etc as part of the Nugel and Care Services programs. The case support role will ensure that culturally appropriate court ordered contact is maintained between children and their families. The Case Support worker will provide transport for children and/or supervision of the family time as required. Nugel implements Section 18 of the Child Youth and Families Act (CYFA) which transfers responsibility for decision making and direct work with Aboriginal children and their families from Department of Families Fairness and Housing (DFFH) Child Protection to VACCA. The role also supports the Care Services programs.

2. Child Development, Trauma, and Behavioural Support

  • Possesses sound knowledge of child development and trauma, with the ability to engage and support children with behavioural challenges in a culturally safe manner.

3. Strong Communication and Confidentiality Skills

  • Maintains confidentiality, communicates effectively with children, young people, and families, and demonstrates strong written and conceptual abilities.

4. Teamwork, Flexibility, and Emotional Intelligence

  • Works well independently and in teams, remains calm under pressure, reflects on personal behaviour, and adapts to varying supervision environments.

5. Professionalism and Ongoing Learning

  • Shows a commitment to professional development and is knowledgeable about child safety regulations, including the use of child restraints.

6. Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
