About the role

The Therapeutic Practitioner plays a vital role in supporting the healing and wellbeing of children aged 0–18. Using a culturally safe, Social and Emotional Wellbeing framework, this position delivers therapeutic assessments, meaningful healing interventions, and expert secondary consultation. You’ll make a real impact by empowering children, families, and carers through trauma‑informed, culturally grounded practice.

About You

You’re a culturally informed therapeutic practitioner who works confidently with children, young people and their families. You provide culturally safe assessments, healing plans and therapeutic support, and you collaborate well with care teams and other professionals. You bring strong SEWB knowledge, maintain clear and timely documentation, and contribute thoughtfully to multidisciplinary discussions, cultural activities and program improvements. You value Aboriginal self‑determination, trauma‑informed practice and your own ongoing professional development.

  • Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification and eligibility for registration in a relevant field, including Social Work, Speech Pathology, Psychology, Family Therapy or Occupational Therapy, or significant relevant experience in similar role
    Ability to travel to all VACCA offices and regions
  • Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
  • Desirable:
  • Experience working in Aboriginal lead organisations and/or a children’s mental health service will be highly regarded
  • Experience providing child development or mental health assessment or behaviour management plans for children or adolescents who engage in high-risk behaviours will be well regarded
    Experience in developing and delivering training
