About the role

Tutor will provide Education supports to Aboriginal children and young people in care by utilising a culturally informed and trauma-informed approach and ensure to best support young people to reengage with, attend and thrive in their chosen education setting and address gaps in learning with a focus on literacy and numeracy development.  

They will be responsible for providing one-on-one educational assistance and tutoring, advising schools on individual learning needs, and supporting Individual Education Plan, Cultural Support ensures a culturally safe environment and offers additional support to foster learning.  

About You

• Commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose 
• A qualified teacher, with a minimum of 2 years classroom experience with children in primary and/or secondary schooling setting.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement individualised educational plans.
• Ability to tailor and develop worksheets, workplans and utilisation of educational resources to respond to learning needs
• Experience engaging with education stakeholders and school support, collaborating to achieve individual student goals and improve literacy and numeracy
• Experience working with young people or children exhibiting challenging behaviours, or school disengagement
• Strong understanding of the education support systems available to young people living in residential care settings and an understanding of strengths-based, trauma informed and therapeutic practice 
• Ability to advocate for service intervention and client supports 
• Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
