The Organisation

The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of its kind in Australia. The VACCA team is committed to the organisation’s visions and values, passionately providing support, service and advocacy for our children and other vulnerable members of the community.

Our strength lies with our people.

About the role

The Bringing Up Aboriginal Babies At Home (BUABAH) program supports Aboriginal families from pregnancy through to six months after birth, helping families stay strong, connected, and supported during this important journey.

As a BUABAH Practitioner, you will walk alongside families, providing culturally safe, trauma-informed support and connecting them with maternity services, community resources, and key supports. Working closely with families and partners, you will empower parents to make informed decisions, strengthen family wellbeing, and promote self-determination.

About You

You are a compassionate and culturally responsive practitioner who is passionate about walking alongside Aboriginal families during pregnancy and early parenthood. You build strong, trusting relationships through yarning, deep listening, and a strengths-based approach that empowers families to make decisions for themselves and their children. You support parents to strengthen their skills, connect with culture, build support networks, and access the services they need to thrive. Confident in working collaboratively with families, community, health services, and key partners, you advocate for cultural safety, challenge barriers and racism, and help families move towards strength, hope, and resilience while keeping the wellbeing of babies and families at the center of your practice.
