About the role

The Cultural Support Worker (KEYS) is responsible for providing informed and attuned consultation, information, and assistance in the care of Aboriginal children and young people living in VACCA’s KEYS program.

They will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure holistic, family-centred, and culturally attuned approaches are central to practice and will form part of all significant decisions and actions.

About You

  • Commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’s vision and purpose
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, culturally appropriate and respectful way with a range of stakeholders including agency staff, carers and Aboriginal services
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal services
  • Ability to use assessment tools to identify and plan for the cultural needs of the child in line with the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle.
  • Ability to educate and mentor agency and Statewide Residential services staff and support them to attend Aboriginal services, community events to develop and maintain appropriate relationships with the Aboriginal community
  • Demonstrated understanding of the cultural knowledge required to deliver effective, culturally safe and responsive services for Aboriginal people within an integrated practice context
  • Capacity to work independently as a member of a broader team
  • Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended).
