About the role

The family services disability practice role has been established to address the challenges many vulnerable families experience with accessing disability support needs, particularly those available through NDIS.

This position will;

  • Provide specialist disability practice support to families involved with VACCA's Family Services programs, ensuring culturally safe and strengths-based approaches are central to every engagement
  • Conduct assessments and develop tailored support plans that reflect each family's goals, cultural identity, and the needs of children and young people living with disability
  • Collaborate closely with internal VACCA teams, the NDIS, and external service providers to coordinate wrap-around support
  • Contribute to practice development and help build disability capability across the broader Family Services team.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience in working and engaging with Aboriginal families and children.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally respectful, trauma informed manner with Aboriginal children, their families and communities to ensure that cultural connections are fostered and maintained
  • Demonstrated experience liaising with the NDIS funded sector, including Local Area Coordinators, Support Coordinators and NDIS planners
  • Demonstrated case management experience in a community services setting
  • Experience or formal qualifications in children services, early childhood education, community services and social work are desirable. It is expected that applicants be willing to undertake a Diploma or other relevant training during their role. This would be supported and facilitated by VACCA.
  • An understanding of developmental milestones across the years and the support needs of vulnerable families with disability
  • Knowledge of the NDIS operational model and NDIS planning processes

Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
