About the role
The VACCA Family Violence Program provides victim survivors of family violence. A range of support options are available that may include short, medium and long term casework. The role will build positive relationships and networks with relevant Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations and services to ensure that appropriate referrals and supports are put in place.
About You
- Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal communities.
- Understanding the issues of family violence and the impact on women, children and families in an Aboriginal context
- Ability to empower and advocate for clients with a non-judgemental approach
- Knowledge of local family violence programs, accommodation, legal, health and community services within the region (or ability to quickly acquire)
- Ability to work collaboratively with other Aboriginal and mainstream organisations in formal and informal partnerships to achieve mutually agreed client/community outcomes
- Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member in a challenging environment, including the ability to prioritise workload and tasks effectively
- Ability to mentor new and existing staff to develop their skills and knowledge relevant to their role.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in social work (or equivalent) or willingness to work toward the qualification in line with the mandatory minimum qualifications policy or significant lived experience relevant to the work
- Where a degree is commenced but not completed, salary will be fixed at Award Level 4 until successful completion
- Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
