About the role

The Beyond Survival Men’s Senior Worker will provide pre-release workshops for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Men on remand, focusing on delivering weekly programs to the Melbourne Prisons with high remand populations such as Melbourne Remand Centre. You will also support the delivery of the other Beyond Survival Men’s prison programs to ensure that the program delivers on the agreed targets.

About You

  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose.
  • Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver group programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and de-escalate potentially volatile behaviours and /or situations.

Desirable

  • Relevant degree or certifications in case management and/or therapeutic practices (i.e. Trauma-informed Care, AoD, Domestic Violence, Social Work, Community Development or other relevant areas).
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in Justice, Group facilitation, or similar role.

Requirements

  • Where a degree is commenced but not completed, salary will be fixed at Award Level 4 until successful completion
  • You must have and continue to hold a full Victorian Driver’s Licence, a current employment Working with Children Check card and a clear National Police Check
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination – strongly recommended
