About the role

This Care Support Worker is responsible for state-wide carer wellbeing and retention at VACCA under the direction of the Carer Coordinator and through the implementation of the VACCA carer strategy.  

The roles will engage and support carers in a planned way that increases VACCA retention of carers and carer wellbeing within the organisation including training information, access to support services to meet their needs, keeping carers informed, empowered, valued and acknowledged.  

The Carer Support Worker will work with the carer coordinator, regional Care and support services programs and directly with carers to assist in the development and implementation of the VACCA state-wide Carer Support Strategy which is to be developed in response numerous reports and strategies that identify complex challenges for carers including navigating courts and court orders, the education system, child protection and family contact.  

About You

  • Commitment to and understanding of the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
  • Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, along with awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal communities, and commitment to continually build knowledge in this area
  • Demonstrated understanding in working with Aboriginal families and children
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, culturally appropriate and respectful way with a range of stakeholders including staff, clients and community members
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member
  • Demonstrated understanding of and a strong commitment to Foster Care and Kinship Care programs and assessment.
  • A demonstrated ability to mentor volunteers by providing them with relevant information, support, feedback about their care, and opportunities for professional development
  • Facilitation skills for information sessions and group work
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, sound verbal and written communication skills.
  • An ability to work flexible hours, including weekend work and after-hours work
  • Requirements: Qualifications in Community Services, Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
