The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of its kind in Australia. About the role

This role is responsible will provide holistic case management to Aboriginal women and their children who are experiencing or escaping family violence in the Eastern region. The Case Manager will build positive relationships and networks with relevant Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations and services to ensure that appropriate referrals and supports are put in place, ranging from short, medium, and long-term options.

About You

  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
  • Demonstrate understanding of the importance of identity, and cultural connections in the healing process for Aboriginal children and families.
  • Experience and ability to work with Aboriginal organisation and communities and a proven ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal people.
  • Understanding the issues of family violence and the impacts on women, children and families
  • Ability to empower and advocate for clients with a non-judgemental approach to service delivery.
  • Knowledge of local family violence programs, accommodation, legal, health and community
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other Aboriginal and mainstream organisations in formal and informal partnerships to achieve mutually agreed client/community outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member in a challenging environment.
  • Self-care and reflective practice strategies leading to resilience and self-awareness
  • Effective and culturally appropriate interpersonal skills e.g. active listening, empathy in all verbal and non-verbal communications.
  • Ability to prepare accurate documents and reports e.g. case notes, incident reports, work reports that meet audience needs
  • Knowledge of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008, MARAM framework - Multi Agency Risk Assessment Management, and issues relating to confidentiality and mandatory reporting provisions
  • Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
