About the role
Mangen Batjelan (To build money – Yorta Yorta) is VACCA’s Financial Wellbeing program for Community. The Financial Counsellor role involves providing one-on-one counselling sessions to help individuals and ensure a culturally safe financial counselling environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be part of a small team supporting Community with resolving debt issues and advocating for equitable service for your clients from a range of service providers. Your Financial Counselling knowledge will help with the development of content for educational modules and financial workshops.
About You
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
- Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal communities
- Demonstrated ability to transfer your FC skills to working in an ACCO or with Aboriginal people who are experiencing financial hardship, rental stress, housing insecurity or homelessness
- Demonstrated ability to work sensitively with a range of clients including young care leavers, victims/survivors of family violence, Aboriginal Elders, Kinship and Foster carers, young people and adults post release from prison as well as Aboriginal professionals experiencing debt issues.
Desirable
- Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds delivering financial counselling
- Experience working in a community service setting or non-profit organisation
Requirements
- Diploma of Financial Counselling and registration as per the relevant state regulations (Mandatory)
- You must have and continue to hold a full Victorian Driver’s Licence, a current employment Working with Children Check card and a National Police Check
- Current COVID-19 vaccination – strongly recommended
- This role may require travel throughout Victoria
