About the role

The role of the House Manager at Gamadji Balit: After Hours is to manage and provide a calm leadership presence in the evenings for VACCA’s Residential Care program across the State. House Manager After Hours will proactively check in on each of our 9+ homes, support and provide guidance to staff to manage any high risk behaviour, and get to know each young person to ensure staff provide consistent, informed support to young people across the program, including document patterns and trends across the program, report in detail to program leadership and provide follow up for managing situations extending from the day into the evening.

House Manager After Hours will be responsible oversight of all 9+ homes during the house of midnight – 8am. This will entail 1-2 staff at every home. House Manager After Hours will have oversight of rosters and filling shifts, monitoring and compliance, support to auditing, reporting, some data collection, program development and contribution to the ongoing quality improvement of the program.

About You

  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people. A sound knowledge and understanding of issues, policies, legislation, and practices in relation to child and family welfare and children in Residential Care, as well as updating knowledge where required. Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professionals, stakeholders and community and a commitment to the principles of Gamadji Balit in this work supporting young people. These include:

  • A demonstrated ability to support and mentor staff by providing them with relevant information, support, feedback about their work, and opportunities for professional development.
  • A demonstrated capacity to work as part of a team as well as providing leadership to a team and capacity to allocate tasks.
  • Ability to work independently (with back up from Senior Management) in an after hours space
  • An ability to work flexible hours, if required.
  • Requirements: Qualifications in line with residential care minimum standards, valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
