About the role

The Initial Assessment and Planning worker will provide culturally appropriate housing assistance, advocacy and referrals for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families experiencing homelessness, housing stress or barriers to accessing services. The IAP Worker is responsible for providing culturally safe, client centred supports to Aboriginal and Tores Strait Islander individuals and families seeking access to housing and homelessness services.

About You

  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose.
  • Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated understanding in working with Aboriginal families and children
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, culturally appropriate and respectful way with a range of stakeholders including staff, Government and agency partners and clients
  • High-level written and computer use ability, including demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel and Powerpoint

Requirements

  • Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
  • Minimum 12 months experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, experience with housing and homelessness and/or in related field and have knowledge of local housing pathways and community support networks.

Desirable

  • Certificate III or above in Community Services or similar discipline
