About the role

This position is responsible for delivering a culturally responsive, safe, and evidence-based suicide postvention model at the Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect South East Metro, Dandenong Hub (Connect Centre) where VACCA has an existing presence. The Connect Centre offers support to individuals, family, carers, supporters, and kin of people with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
 
This position sits within the Southern VACCA region team whose responsibilities include delivery of mental health and wellbeing supports to Aboriginal children and families in Melbourne’s southern metro region. This position is funded by the Southeast Metro Primary Health Network.

About You

  • Commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
  • Degree in Mental Health, Social Work or related discipline and/or relevant experience in the community services sector
  • Experience within mental health, wellbeing, child and family, community engagement sectors and demonstrated awareness and understanding of working with people with lived experience of suicide.
  • Experience in end-to-end project planning, management (delegation of tasks and monitoring) and delivery.
  • Experience in collaborating effectively with a range of stakeholders including Aboriginal community members, Elders, staff at Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and the broader mental health and wellbeing community.
  • Experience in writing reports, preparing documents for management and funders,
  • Demonstrated capability to supervise staff and lead a project and its resources from vision to delivery focusing on support, accountability and ensuring a culture that aligns with VACCA’s values
  • Ability to travel throughout Southeast Victoria.
  • Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
