          About the role

          The role will work collaboratively with the Cultural Healing Therapists to deliver a holistic and culturally safe therapeutic service and provide secondary consultations across VACCA and to other stakeholders.

          The role will be responsible for holding a case load providing appropriate interventions for Aboriginal children, young people, women, and men victims/survivors of sexual assault, and their family members, delivering therapeutic one-to-one counselling using a range of modalities, and therapeutic group programs, collaborate with case managers which may include outreach, and integrate other appropriate services/cultural supports.

          About You

          • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose. 
          • A bachelor’s degree in social work (or equivalent) or willingness to work toward the qualification in line with the mandatory minimum qualifications policy or significant lived experience relevant to the work
          • A Counselling qualification with eligibility to be registered with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
          • Demonstrated experience and expertise delivering culturally safe therapeutic interventions and responding to complex trauma of Aboriginal children, young people, and adult victim/survivors of sexual assault.
          • An understanding of the issues that impact Aboriginal adults who have experienced sexual assault. 
          • An understanding of child development and the impact of trauma and sexual assault on children and young people. 
          • Detailed knowledge of family-focused approaches which work to heal complex trauma from sexual assault. This includes impacts on the individual and their family. 
          • An understanding of strength-based Aboriginal trauma-informed practice specific to sexual assault. 
          • Detailed knowledge and understanding of supporting a team of counsellors to provide a quality service to clients.  
          • Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
