About the role

The Family Violence Team Leader will provide leadership, direction and support to family violence case workers employed within the family violence program in Gippsland. You will oversee staff in delivering general case work activities, including intake, advocacy, care plans, and referrals, with Aboriginal women, children, and families impacted by family violence, as well as conducting risk assessments and safety planning (MARAM). This position is based in a Women’s Refuge.

About You

  • Commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
  • Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal communities
  • Experience working with Aboriginal organisations and communities, with effective communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008, Information Sharing and Multi Agency Risk Assessment Framework (MARAM).
  • An understanding of or ability to understand the relevant legislative frameworks, in particular with the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and Family Violence Protection Act 2008.
  • Proven leadership skills in managing and guiding a team in quality practice, with clear, culturally appropriate communication to staff, clients, and community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a flexible, non-judgmental and empowering approach to service delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and submissions.
  • Culturally appropriate interpersonal skills, including active listening and empathy.
  • Knowledge of local family violence programs and services or ability to acquire this knowledge
  • Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster dose, as applicable)
