About the role

Support Service (ACSASS) provides expert cultural advice and case consultation to Child Protection on all reports of alleged harm and key decisions throughout the child protection process.

Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, the Team Leader oversees the Lakidjeka program, leading and supporting staff to deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate services. This role also provides specialist advice to ensure decisions uphold the best interests of Aboriginal children, maintaining their connection to family and culture.

About You

You’re an experienced leader with a strong understanding of child welfare and Aboriginal cultural safety. You excel at managing programs and staff, building partnerships with government and community organisations, and advocating for Aboriginal children and families. You’re hands-on, ready to travel between regions, supervise teams, manage caseloads, and provide expert advice in complex child protection matters. You’re committed to embedding cultural frameworks, ensuring compliance, and driving high quality service delivery through collaboration, training, and continuous improvement.

  • Requirements: 
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in the field such as Social Work, Youth Work, Psychology or Community Services and/or extensive relevant experience, or a combination of experience, expertise, sufficient to perform the duties required.
  • Preparedness to participate in an after-hours on call service.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in/with the Child Protection System.
  • Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended).
